I am working on two projects with Duos.
1. I am going to India in December to teach street kids about computers.
I am taking two Duos. One is a 280c and the other is a 270c.
I am searching through old MacWorld magazines to find Macworld's list
of the best computer games for each year. I believe that games are an
excellent way for kids to learn the basics of computers even if they do not
speak English and I do not speak Tamil.
Here is a list of the programs I am planning to take:
No more Lemmings
Prince of Persia 2
SimAnt
SimCity 2000
Free Nisus Compact
Photoshop
Bryce 2 (270c only, no FPU on the 280c)
PageMaker 5
flight simulators:
Falcon MC
F/A Hornet
Crystal Caliburn
Mavis Bacon Teaches Typing (an earily version and not very good.)
I am still trying to find a copy of "The Incredible Machine" and "Crystal
Crazy". I am also looking for a good MIDI sequencing program.
What other programs do you recommend for kids on the Duos?
2. Another project I am working on for next year is developing a Duo for
kids 5 to 8. The Duos (particularly the 270c and the 280c) have a wealth of
excellent educational games available for them. Each Duo would be fully
loaded with software ready to use. The Duos would be loaned to schools or
to kids directly. (There would be no batteries in the units, just the power
adapters. Also there would be no printer and no internet access. Just the
bare basics with terrific programs.) When the kids have toasted the units,
they send them back and I recycle them.
I have not develop a list of the programs for the kids. When I have the
list, I will publish it. What software would you recommend for schools?
