Subject: [Duo2400] RAM & HD upgrade experiences? (Duo 2300)

I recently upgraded mine to 48 megs and it's made quite a bit of difference
when running multiple apps. I can't say that it's sped individual things up
all that much, but it no longer slows down when running several things that
aren't too processor intensive (and even if I am, it's not as bad). I also
was able to install some extras that I'd been holding off on because of
memory limitations (Running 8.6 on 20 megs, IIRC).

Sorry, I like mine :)

I upgraded to an IDE 1.2 gigger at the same time. Can't say that it's all
that much faster, but I still have a good third of it free with everything I
need on it. Depends on your needs. I'd bet a newer HD out of an iBook would
make a noticeable speed difference on disk writes.

Definately some kind of external ADB adapter. The keyboards are nice, but
when you're typing a big document, the full-sized keyboard is a must. I've
never really needed ethernet as I've only ever needed to transfer floppyable
documents, or I used my LCIII as a bridge to anything ethernet. As for
hacks, there are a couple of possibilities. Someone added an ADB port onto
the power card (the thing that's in there when you don't have a modem), but
I don't know where you'd put it if you have the modem. I suppose that adding
an audio out wouldn't be too hard, but I don't know that you could make the
computer go into anything more than 8 bit mono (or is it 16 bit mono? I
forget, I don't use mine for sound).

If you're just going to be doing things like word processing and the like, I
would almost recommend a "downgrade" to a 280c. I almost regret upgrading my
280c to a 2300c because I'm not doing anything on it I couldn't do before
(except run 8.6, but big deal) and it feels somewhat slower. Just my
experience, though, it is nice to have a PowerPC that will run most anything
still made, if slowly. I also have a Duo 230 running MacOS 8.1 that I've
started using more and more over the 2300 just because of the snappier
response.

Not a problem :)
