HI, I just subscribed to this list a few days ago and this is my first
posting to any list. please bear with me if I make some mistakes.
I was given a Duo 280c a few years ago that was password-protected with APS
Powertools. Their Tech support insisted there was NO WAY to bypass their
driver-level protection. I bought a Duo dock, booted from an external drive,
and used Norton Unerase to recover everything. I believe I was using v3.5.2
at the time. As I recall, I had to "fiddle around" to find the drive. Option
names, menus, and locations have changed a bit since that version. Look for
"show missing disks" and "look for real files" (as opposed to deleted
files). You'll need at least v4.0 if its HFS+.
If this works, it still doesn't give you use of the drive. I used
Silverlining for that (an older version-dont remember which) to install new
drivers. It refused at least five times with various errors, then worked!.
That gave me full access, I didn't even need to unerase.
The latest version (6.something) does support IDE, but its a purchased
upgrade. However, your pre-6.0 came with Silverlining light. Its not "light"
in the reduced capability sense, its a control panel. The last free upgrade
brings it too 2.2.2 and supports IDE. I use it on my 2300c. The 280c has
SCSI, so I don't know if any of this will be helpful-hope so :)
