Vic, Thank you for being a resourceful and brave (& replying!) 2300 owner on a 'RAM budget'. For those interested, I can report that I'm an idiot. After bringing home a pack of Radio Shack 'Nylon Wire Ties', I find that I have bought ones only long enough to half-wrap around the drive! Take two... ; ) I have backed up the old drive's MacOS 8.1 and will have both on the 3G drive, for a MacOs 'startup drag race' and to compare startup time against the old 1.1G drive (1'33"). As Speed Doubler supports 8.5 but presumably not 8.6, and as Vic mentions, 8.6 is native, I'll update you soon on the OS Drag Race, and general 'feel' of the enhanced 8.1 (w. SD 8.1.2) vs. the 'natural' 8.6. Anyone care to add to Vic's comments re. 8.1/SpeedDblr v. 8.6 on RAM-emaciated Duo 2300s?
