I will guess that the trackpad will work painted. I don't have a duo with a trackpad (280c with trackball) but my 3400c has a trackpad. I always have a paper "sticky note" on the trackpad. It makes it slicker. My sometimes moist fingers don't drag on the paper surface like they do on the plastic surface. I just change the sticky note once every week or two as it gets dirty.
