Very interesting: booting from a flash card. Would that be a way to extend
battery life? (Minimize hard disk access.) Would it work? What happens when
programs try to create / save their settings in the system Preferences
folder? Any ideas?
Andy Stadler-- When you boot from your flash card, does Mac OS think
it's booting from a hard disk style device or a CD-Rom style device? Anyone
else have experience with this arrangement?
(I've had to upgrade to a G3 Powerbook for Java development. It can't
boot from a ram disk the way my Duo 2300 did. Believe it has to reload it's
"rom" from disk. Even increasing disk cache to 20 megs does not seem really
cut disk access. Ugh...)
