It wouldn't really buy you much over a standard lithium ion battery, and it'd be much more expensive (part of the reason the iPod costs so much, along with the things like the 1.8" hard drive and white LED backlight). The main benefit of lithium ion polymer hybrids (which is what's actually available now and used in the iPod) is the slim shape they can be formed into. They're also safer to charge (can't burst into flames on overcharging as lithium ion cells do). In theory it'll be possible in a few years to build real, non-hybrid lithium polymer batteries into clothing and such - not an entirely pleasant thought, but surely a boon for markets like the novelty underwear industry (ok, still not an entirely pleasant thought ;). But the capacity and life aren't actually any better, and possibly worse. There have certainly been other improvements in lithium ion batteries since the 2400 was released, though, seen in computers like the iBook. Perhaps someone could back-port a better battery, but I'm not sure it'd be worth it, and it could also be dangerous (the power manager in each model is tuned to safely charge the battery type that was originally shipped, and messing around with it could easily cause a fire or explosion). Rebuilding NiMH batteries isn't that hard, but you don't want to screw around with lithium ion cells. -- Marc Sira | [EMAIL PROTECTED] "If you can't play with words, what good are they?" ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
