I know the situation. It's not only the PB 2400--I encountered these
symptoms briefly with my Duo 2300c after piecing it back together when I
finally got the hard drive installed, but I didn't really let it shake
me as I've been through the routine many times before with many other
macs--even desktop machines. Our family's old Macintosh SE sat on the
floor in my basement bedroom, doing nothing but collecting dust and
serving as a stand for one of my large pairs of stereo speakers (old
compact macs work great for this, BTW) for four years, from that fateful
day when it supposedly 'stopped working' (something that could be
expected after nine years of heavy use) and forced us to buy a Beige
Desktop G3 to replace it (how sad), and the day I, out of simple
curiosity, plugged it in and hit the switch only to discover that it
functioned perfectly.

The same deal with my 2300c, although I only waited for a few hours
(after trying all that reset crap) instead of a few years before it
booted. Now it functions fine. Nothing seems to have really been wrong
at all.

Oh, by the way, next time anyone out there wants to install a new HD in
their duo but doesn't want to buy new mounting brackets, try this:
adhere the old mounting brackets to the sides of the new hard drive with
a piece of double-sided foam sticky tape. You'll probably want to find
the thinnest tape your hardware store has, as it does end up being a
very snug fit. In the end, the pressure moved the button the latch
pushes down on to make the Duo sleep just a little bit, so the Duo
doesn't snooze when you simply close the lid, but I think I will be able
to fix this...if I ever feel like pulling the damn thing apart again.

Am I OT yet?

Ah, yes. sorry.
