The gold has 128K wireless encryption while the silver has 40K. I guess your choice depends on how freaked out you are about wireless intrusion and what your base station has in it. The old Airport has a Silver within, so then buying a Silver for your PB's makes sense. (Otherwise, you'd have to buy 2 gold cards.) Also, Apple's Airport 1.3.1 software removes the need to install any Lucent software at all, as your Mac is made to think the Silver is an Airport card. This is all 802.11b stuff.
