Those of us lucky (rash?) enough to get the Interware 320MHz upgrade
before it disappeared get CPU/FPU/Video scores of 879/748/159 -- nice
boosts from the stock 2400. Going on to an iBook would boost scores
+43%, +86% and +501%(!).

Since I'm not a gamer, I don't sense that slow video makes much
difference to me, and I know from my little bit of coding --
scientific, yet -- that FPU seldom matters. So the key result is a
likely 43% boost with an iBook. Wait 5 seconds where I now wait 7.

These numbers ain't justification for the hassle of moving files,
learning new quirks, etc. Keep me from an upgrade that'd not be much of
one. Since sluggish VPC is my worst hassle, the iBook's main benefit
would be enough memory that I could run Windows properly (it's a
horrible squeeze in 80MB w/ Sys 9.1, which was the first good MacOS for
connectivity that I've used). Maybe Win would run 50% faster (whoopee).
Yes, I'd love to have a base station for an iPod (and the Pod), but
other than FireWire, a cheap modem/Ether card handles 2400 connectivity
very well.

Next stop, my banker. Then a TiBook.

ps: the G3 Copper CPU also extends the battery life a bit vs the
603/180, one of the few speed/batt double-wins in this world.
