You can, I do without any problems and I'm sure that the system recognizes
quite a few different file formats. I should have said that the default for
Apples' desktop pictures is PICT format but I doubt that you would want to
use tiff for example, because they are usually quite large files. I think
size might be the issue here, not file format, but the format will of course
define the size.
