You can pull it off by running the OS installer that is buried in the CD's directory and not the general "let's get started" type of installer alias. That's meant to run on only one sort of Mac--the one that the CD says its for. I guess it uses a Gestalt call or something. I had that problem when I needed to use an iMac OS8 disk. I would get the same error. Another solution is to boot from another source, like an external HD and run the buried installer from that SF.
