Peter:
Don't sell the 230 short. It's still a great little machine. If you run
software on it that was around when it was new, i.e. WORD 5.1 etc. it will
be a zippy laptop, and you'll probably find that software to have just the
right features without bloat.
If you can find a Duo Dock, I'd go that way. They're cheap, at least in the
'States, It'll give you a floppy drive which most software of that vintage
was on, and has all the standard ports to let you hook up just about
anything else. For instance external 2X CD drives are cheap and will get
CDs into the 230 via SCSI.
Lacking a dock, you can do what you suggested and take your printer cable
and connect the 230 to your desktop per the LocalTalk instructions and you
have a convenient, if not too fast, way to transfer almost anything.
