(3) Highlighting the iMac drive icon and doing "get info" brings up a

Setting up file-sharing in older operating systems is a bit different but
not too difficult. First enable file sharing through either the control
strip or the control panel. Highlight the folder or file that you want to
share, then go to the File menu and scroll down. Under "Get Info" you'll
find "Sharing." Select it and follow the prompts.

Access to Appletalk differs between operating systems. In older OS such as
7.1 or 7.5, you access Appletalk through the Network control panel, where
you can switch between ethernet or Local Talk. In systems 8x and above
Appletalk has its own control panel.

I always got hung up with using ethernet through Appletalk until I realized
that I had to save the settings in Appletalk before it would connect for
me. After switching between ethernet or local talk, I then close that
control panel and the computer asks me if I want to save the changes in the
settings. I click yes and it works. Lots of frustration until I finally
got it right but it works all the time right now.

BTW, I have connected my Powerbook 170 to my iMac at work using a SSCI to
ethernet mini-adapter.
