i'm new to the list, so please bear with me. i've got an ibook, and the
2400/180c is foreign to me. but i'm trying to return a big favor to a friend
by bringing her powerbook more current. she really only uses it for 2
things: surfing the web/ordering online, and dialing into our corporate
network to retrieve office email. because of the online shopping and other
concerns, i'd like to get her at least to os 8.1, netscape 4.7 and ie 5. i'm
reading conflicting documentation about minimum system requirements (i was
about to attempt a download of 8.1 updater). PLEASE GIVE ME A CLUE! or two!
here's what she has: powerpc 603ev @ 180 mhz; os 8; 48 mb memory; largest
unused block of 35.3 mb. she won't need ANYTHING fancy or extra beyond the
base os, except the ability to dial in past our firewall at work to retrieve
work email. sorry to be wordy, but the two obvious questions are: 1) does
this 2400 have enough juice to download, install AND run os 8.1, and 2) are
there any screaming gotchas? thank you so much for your help.
