I have a global village modem/ethernet card for my powerbook 2400. The card works fine but I am not able to upgrade the firmware. Anyways, the laptop is connected to a LAN in my house (4 other computers hooked up). I'm kind of disappointed with the web browsing speed. I've used Opera, iCab, and IE 5.1/5.0. All are slow, or at least leave a little to be desired in regards to speed--the first two are faster than the latter two.
My question(s): Would a 10/100 card improve speed? My laptop config is a non-cardbus, 180 mhz, 80ram, 20gb hd. My network is capable of higher capacity transfer, but I'm afraid the GV card is limited by its 10bT speed. Could the problem be simply my inability to upgrade the firmware? What are my options for 100 ethernet speed for non-cardbus 2400c (in addition to Dr Bott card)? How much of an improvement would there be if my laptop were a G3? Any info would be appreciated.
