I anticipated this in discussions already because it's clear the retail network lacks 2400 qualified techs these days--a real headache for the prospective manufacturer. > > The Interware CPU upgrade has different tolerances (it has a > significantly lower profile) than the Apple original 603 CPU (which > snuggled right up to the built-in heatsink, and would not even allow > such a mod to work. I still have all 240/120/512, 240/160/1, 320/160/1, 400/200/1, and a dead G3-240 and 320. One day I'll post all the benchmarks, already done a couple of years back with Norton & MacBench, no Libmoto. The problem is that the ram/HD/software configs are different. > Again, I would suspect that any company with the engineering talent > to produce a CPU upgrade for our beloved 2400c would also have the > engineering talent to reproduce, and most likely *improve* on the > modification I made to RFL's 2400c. Compressed alu foil (see earlier post in this digest) does exactly that. If you look inside a 3400/3500, Apple has an elaborate rectangular alu block and heat pipe solution (we still have 4 Kangas running too)--made a big investment in those days. > Lastly, I sweet-talked my way into procuring some free samples of > some pretty expensive thermal gap filler material. I think this is unnecessary and can be completely bypassed to simplify future installations, but more critical temp evaluations should be performed. It's obviously VERY effective, though.
