I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to make a
280c screen readable in my pickup. The problem is basically twofold.
Brightness and glare. Not much can be done about brightness other than
to put in a new CCFL (florescent lamp). I have even tried two lamps with
limited success, but found that a new lamp helped considerably over the
original which probably had lots of hours on it.
Glare is a semi-solvable problem. Because of the reflection of light
(not refraction) which hits the surface of the LCD display, that surface
acts like a mirror. I found that positioning the duo properly was the
only way to eliminate this reflected light. To find the proper position,
simply assume that the display screen is a flat mirror, then position
the display such that when you are viewing the display you are looking
at the roof of your pickup in this mirror. If you are seeing the sky,
through any pickup window (in the mirror) you will not be able to read
the display but it you are looking at the interior roof of the vehicle
it should be readable.
A hood can be put on the display. Either buy a hood or make it out of
cardboard and tape it on. I could never find a way to benefit from a
hood inside the pickup, but I suppose outside of the vehicle it could be useful.
