If the CDROM you have is Apple bootable, it would boot fine. Also, getting a floppy drive would be an extremely good idea as they're just useful. You also could use SCSI Disk Mode to another Mac to install a new OS, though it would be a good idea to use Wish I Were or similar to make it think the other Mac is a 2300 just for safety's sake.
