Hi everybody, new to the list. Recently acquired a Duo 230 w/dock and an
Express Modem. And the modem is where the trouble started...

I installed the modem by replacing the 'power card', no problem. Connected
the other part of the modem. Got the newest Express modem software that I
could (Apple Telecom 3.0). Set up the modem in the Express Modem control
panel. Chose "internal port" and "Geoport/Express Modem" script in the
Modem Control Panel. And I can't get any reaction from the modem.

I get a message that the modem could not detect a dial tone. But in reality
the modem seems to be unable to connect to the line at all. I have a
terminal that shows when a phone is picked up and it shows nothing when the
modem starts dialing. Also auto-answer does not work. It seems the modem
does not "see" the phone line at all.

I tried throwing out all preferences, resetting PRAM, no chance. Nothing
seems to work.

I was wondering, perhaps the phone cable (from the modem, external part, to
the phone outlet) for the Express Modem is wired differently than a normal
phone cable? That, or the fact that the modem is broken, seems to me the
only viable explanation of what's going on...
