Tomasz,

Considering you're in Poland, I assume your Express Modem is the sort that
needs a DAA interface to the 8-pin round plug that we got instead of the
standard RJ11 fitted on US Express Modem cards, what you refer to as the
'external part'.

I so, then yes, you phone lead could be the problem. I remember that when I
got my 230 back in 93, I had to look for a cable that would work from the
DAA RJ11 to the UK phone socket. I ended up going to Maplin, our Radio Shack
in the UK, to buy that phone cable. The sales person told me at the time
that there were two US to UK types of cable you could buy, and that because
the wiring was different, one would work but not the other.

So this is definitely something to keep in mind when troubleshooting Express
Modems that are not the US sort.
