To the person who was having trouble with a rebuilt Duo battery: I had a similar problem some time ago, and posted to this list, with no suggestions that helped (first time I haven't gotten an answer here). My situation was that my battery charged in an external charger, and then measured 14.? V, but it wasn't seen in any one of 3 different Duos. Today, I finally got around to taping over different combinations of contacts (not including the "outside" ones that are marked + and -). I found that if I tape over the contact right next to the one marked + (i.e., the one next to the one closest to the edge), the battery would still charge. So, I put it into my 280c, pressed the start button, and it booted right up (on the battery alone)! The battery charge strip indicated full charge, and (after a few minutes), it told me that I had more than 2 hours of run time.
I haven't fully tested this yet: I didn't charge it past 93% (indicated on the 280c), and the temperature of the battery (on the strip) tells me 199 deg C. I assume, from this, that I have taped over the contact that tells battery temperature. (The "internal temperature" is right in the high 30s to low 40s range that I have always seen.) I also assume that there is something wrong with that circuit (due, no doubt, to my rebuild), so that under "normal" conditions (contact not taped), the Duo won't use the battery. I have no idea what the Duo thinks is happening for it not to use the battery, but it doesn't. If I find problems with this (taping of a contact) over the longer term, I will re-post. I hope this helps the poster from earlier today; I am certainly happier that my "new" battery seems to be working. (By the way: the battery that I rebuilt is an Xtend battery, Type 3, "Replaces: M1499". It has a small circuit board in the corner of the case near the contacts. I didn't find any thin circuits as are described in the web pages about rebuilding these batteries. I used the 2100 mAh cells mentioned in at least one of the articles.)
