Try running Battery Amnesia and/or Apple's Battery Conditioner on it multiple times. If the Duo dies when the battery is inserted, DO NOT TRY TO CHARGE IT in the Duo!!! It may have an internal short which **MAY** kill the logic board (fixed one last year...took out the P/S reg chip....what a pain to replace!!!). If the Duo just doesn't see it (which you indicated), do try the above. NiMH cells may respond to repeated charge attempts. If the battery is truly dead, why not replace the cells? Several places sell the 4/5ths "A" NiMH (nickel metal hydride) cells that can be used to replace the originals. You do have to be handy with a soldering iron, tho. You'll need 10 cells if you decide to go that route....think MadDog had a website w/ the details. I've done a bunch...so far, no problems. Off the subject, I'm digging a bunch of stuff out to take to a local radio fleamarket this weekend (hamfest....no, we're not barbecuing "Babe") and I'll see if I can find that adapter to allow the use of a 12V gelcell to power the Duo. If I find it, I'll post the details of what I had done to make it work. SideNote: Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the security types at the airport when you try to get on the plane lugging a 17aH gelcell battery, a bunch of wire and a computer? <<grin>> I have enough trouble with my amateur radio HT (looks like a cellphone); they'd probably just shoot me if I showed up with such a battery pack!
