My RATOC FW card shows up with a custom icon but I've no experience with IBM cards. > > I just tried hooking up my Sony camcorder to the computer and tried to > use a > couple of shareware apps (BTV and SmartVideo) to capture some video. > Both > report an error trying to initialize the input. What I fail to notice is the custom enabler: I know for certain that FireWire Cardbus Enabler supports NewerTech cards but I don't think it supports IBM cards. Your card documentation should be clear in that respect. For instance, I have a RATOC enabler besides FW support and enabler, and no FW cardbus enabler is needed in my case. Other caveats: first you need to hook up the camera, turn it on and then fire up your video editing software. Otherwise the computer won't see the camera through the CardBus card. You will need a fast hard drive (a latest generation IBM works great, and it's best to capture to an empty partition) and a G3 upgrade to do something decent on the 2400c. I've succeded in capturing small clips (40-50 seconds) from a Canon camcorder using VideoShop 4.5 and ReelEyes, and edit them later. The editing takes place somewhat on the slow side, but it works. Getting the edited video back to the camera is a different thing: so far I've been unable to make it work properly, whereas you can do it effortlessly even in a 500Mz USB iBook. Compressing using the Sorenson codec is painfully slow on the 2400c, but you get very good results if you are patient enough to see it finished.
