Following was sent w/o answer, yet. Actually I thought of calling late last week but missed my time windows due to preoccupation on other matters (I'm +9 hrs). Will make further direct contact soon. I don't want to pester them too much because the upgrade companies are surely preoccupied with MW-NYC and a new round of upgrade releases. ------ Forwarded Message From: (uses my non-spammed email address) Date: Thu, 30 May 2002 17:17:33 +0200 To: Subject: Re: Powerbook 2400c - G3 Upgrade Proposal Hi , Further to my email of April 3 and our various phone conversations, I'd like to ask how/what the outlook is for a possible G3-700-800 MHz upgrade for the Powerbook 2400c. The specs on the new PPC750FX from IBM show a 1 GHz G3 with up to 20X multiplier. Which means that on a 40 MHz bus you could still get 800 MHz on the CPU. I'm not sure how much performance you'd lose with such a high multiplier, but being able to run a 2400 at near G4-800 MHz speeds would be great for boasting rights. Not bad for the upgrade business to put forward a "technology demonstrator" at 800 Mhz. We are prepared to put in bigger heat sinks. Further, IBM has put the 512KB L2 cache on the chip, so there's no need for separate cache chips (saves a little money in assembly) and the L2 cache runs full speed at the same speed as the CPU. The disadvantage is that it's only 512KB and not 1 MB as most mid to high end upgrades are these days. I'm wondering how far your R & D team has gotten on this. I was in Irvine early in May but decided that was too soon after my initial contacts to drop over to your offices. There are many previously registered 2400 owners contacting me on the status of this project. Just within our discussion list there are about 40 pcs without any promotion. I look forward to hearing something about the interim developments. Thanks for any info! Best regards, Sidney Ho ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
