Was the voodoo involved in reviving it very difficult (or prohibitively 
expensive)?

After three batteries purchased from ebay, I'm still looking for a 
working battery. I've determined that I'm not brave enough to zap dead 
batteries (at least not yet), and I lack the needed tools to build my 
own / rebuild them.
