Interesting; I ran LinuxPPC on my 2400 up until it died (for hardware reasons that I'm once again trying to track down - maybe a blown surface-mount fuse on the logic board or I/O board?). I found it a relatively good notebook platform for Linux, better than most x86 notebooks sold around the same time. PC cards worked fine, power saving and battery life were as good as in OS 9, and it's really rather snappy. In fact, I taught a Linux workshop on it. ;) The problems I did notice included: - some minor video artifacts when using the old accelerated XPMac display server for X, because the new (XFree86 v4) one didn't have a kernel driver for the C&T chipset in the 2400. - difficulty getting the accelerated server to work over the external video port for presentations. Worked fine (but slowly) with video acceleration disabled. - no IRDA driver (which didn't affect me but might someone). I used a Farallon ethernet card and a TDK v.90 modem in the PC slots with no difficulty. It does require some work to get everything running well on the 2400 (chiefly a kernel recompile), but the same can be said of any notebook running Linux, or even a desktop or server with some mildly non-generic hardware. I haven't tried SuSE, but the distribution you use doesn't really affect the core issues like PMU and PC card support, which are all addressed in the kernel. X might be a bit easier to set up though. -- Marc Sira | [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you can't play with words, what good are they? ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
