Hello all,
Glad I'm still on the list when frustrating moments like this happen. I have an original PB2400c without upgrades (no cardbus either). I have a Farallon (Proxim) wireless card (11mps). I am running os 9.0.4. I have a new airport base station (snow). I previously was able to connect via the airport base station ( a graphite model) modem to earthlink without a problem. I iinstalled components of the airport program (NOT USING TOME- so don't ask me how I did it). I don't know why it suddenly didn't work (this was about a year ago) but after my poor attempt a tech support, I erased the airport program files and farallon extensions to try installing it all again to no avail. I've since REALLY screwed everything up--I don't know what I did to the external CD drive (recognized by the powerbook without a driver once upon a time) but now when I turn it on and put in a CD in the drive at I get is a giant SCSI symbol on the computer screen when I try to boot the computer. So as you can see, there are really two problems here. So not being able to extract files from the airport or skyline CDs on the powerbook, I bought a PCI card for my apple TAM to try the card. The set up is the same: I installed the skyline files. I then used Tome with instruction from http://www.edu/%7Efrohro/Airport/Airport12OS86.html. Of course I'm using the wrong OS according to the sirection and also the Airport 2.0 CD (not the 1.2 recommended) but I atleast had it working on os9 a year ago. So anyway the light on the card lights up (NOT flashing so there is a strong enough signal) and the farallon software window "sees" the base station name. But the airport software (I guess) doesn't "see" and airport card and when I try to auto-log on (after switching from the modem to farallon card in remote access I think?) by starting IE5, it doesn't access the base station. So I know this letter is both long winded and full of holes in my reasoning but GEEZ! SOMEBODY BAIL ME OUT! I'm about ready to chuck all this new wireless crappola! Thanks in advance for the (hopefully) 20 or so replies, Paul computer-illiterate mac user ps: Pls pardon the typos, but I'm too tired to proof the above __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
