Hi Paul

sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. I can offer help for 
your first problem (above). Your computer is booting into "SCSI disk 
mode". this is triggered by the presence of the 30th pin on the 
powerbook end (the square end that plugs into your powerbook) of your 
SCSI cable.

either get a normal SCSI cable with only 29 pins (one missing in the 
corner), or (if you have a switch on it) switch the connector to 
"SCSI" or "OFF" (and not "DOCK" or "ON").
