I am not one of the Gurus and may not be very helpful but your project 
sounds intriguing.

        Do you need the physical connection between them at all times?

        If not, floppies and the sneaker net (gotta' have floppy drives for 
each machine)  or  Zip (ditto) would work easily.  Serial could connect 
them too but I don't think serial will go 150 feet.  The imac will need 
something to adapt to serial or phoneline network.  If you have to move 
around much with the 280, dragging 150 feet of phonewire or anywire 
behind would really be a drag :-).  Wonder if you could do anything 
wirelessly with the 280, like a cell phone velcroed on the back of the 
lid?

        I doubt I have been helpful, it's a neat project.
