> I do most of my work on a 2400/240/7.6.1. ... WriteNow ...
WordPerfect. ... for ordinary word processing (writing books and
articles) how does Star Office and/or other Linux WP apps compare with
WriteNow/Word Perfect.? How does Linux email compare to eudora? Does IE
run on Linux? If not, how does the Linux replacement compare?

Tried Suse Linux 7.2 last year on a PC. Star Office 5 was not as good as
Word or WordPerfect for Windows. Certainly not as nice as WordPerfect
Mac 3.5x. Linux was not easy to setup, though the KDE desktop was at
least as good as the Windows 98 desktop once configured. Only tried
Konquerer browser; not a suitable replacement for IE.

I've never found a word processor that was better than WordPerfect Mac
3.5x. WP 3.5x was very responsive under 7.6.1 (Even on my 100mHZ 2300.)
Saving my work as either WordPerfect Windows 5.x or a Word 4 or 5,
almost always yielded a file suitable for other users.

In short-- don't move to Linux in pursuit of a comfortable word
processing environment.

If you'll consider moving up to Mac OS 8.6, you might be able to get an
older version of MacLink Plus that gives you more file translation
ability.

For what it's worth, I do know an author who strongly recommended Word
for Mac version 4. He had a particularly good add-on thesaurus.
