Let's recap:

I use my Duo 280c all the time. it is my main computer on the road, and I am
traveling constantly as a part of my profession. My battery is only good when
my computer stays off(!), as a way to keep the PRAM battery from being used
up. It can go as long as a few days like that...

And at one time I was going to buy a NEW Duo battery (from BTI or from
Batteries Plus) until I learned that sometimes those Duo batteries give
spotty performance... AND COST TOO DANG MUCH!

Awhile ago I asked y'all what y'all thought of using one of those computer
backup power supplies as an "external Powerbook battery." It said it could
power a desktop & monitor for 8-12 minutes after a power outtage.... I
wondered how long could it power a laptop??

- Most regarded it as a question no one have ever botherd to asked
before....! ;-)

So, to add to your Useless Information File:

I bought a new CONEXT 300 BATTERY BACKUP "power strip"-type device off Ebay
for about $30 (Best Buy & Batteries Plus wanted twice that), charged it up
and hook up my Duo 280c to it.

I started my PBook up and immediately put it into a screen saver I have
called "Moire" or something like that... anyway, it constantly draws complex
swirling patterns w/ multi-colors and shapes (oh, if I had THIS in my college
days!) ;-)

Anyway, it was the easiest way I could think to keep the power usage on the
Duo high (I already eliminated processor recycling & other battery saving
techniques), 'cause "I weren't gonna jest sit 'dere and fiddle around wit it
4 long...!"

Anyway, the device powered my 280c for one hour and 15 minutes...

...and the weight of the thing ensures me that carrying it aorund I can get
rid of my Bally's membership! :-D

(naah, it's just like 8 pounds... and I can fit it in my rolling computer bag
(nerd!) so it is no bother...)
