Thanks to all who replied. I have actually made a Zip disk that
fires up the 2300 running OS 9.1. There's the good news.

The trick that did it was to use HD SC 7.3.5 Patched. That was the
only tip that actually worked for me. I tried Hard Disk ToolKit 4.0,
but it kept crashing my machine when run. The startup key combo
didn't do the job, but I had forgotten about that trick. Thanks.

Now the bad news. I now have a regular Mac hard drive icon showing
for the Zip disk and can work with it like any other disk.
Unfortunately, it's *too* much like a hard drive. I cannot eject the
disk. The only thing I've been able to do to get the disk out of the
Zip Drive is to shut every thing down (not the Zip Drive ...doing
that can get you the Click of Death with a disk installed), then use
a paper clip to eject the disk. The front button will not eject the
disk.

That's not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to just punch the
thing out of the drive. Also, I will have to redo everything since
I'm getting one of those blasted "Please insert the disk [whatever]"
messages every time I run the new Zip disk.

The good news is really great now, though. As long as I can run the
little machine from a drive other than it's internal, life should be
fine. Again, thanks to all.
