>No thermal Pad. Just the CPU up against the built in heat sink.
Bingo! There is your problem. The Interware G3 CPU card is thinner
than the stock Apple 603, so it actually does not physically contact
the heat sink. Interware supplied a roughly 3cm x 3cm x 4mm
(measurements based on memory only, so take them as inexact) thermal
pad to place between them.
>Where would I get a thermal pad?
Good question. I have seen them at "geek stores" like Vetco, Radar
Electric, and Fry's... you might try your local equivalent.
I have secured samples from manufacturers (such as Fujipoly's
"Sarcon") directly for my 2400c cooling mods.
Another option is to add a cooling mod to your 2400c. The one I have
done, (proverbially referred to on-list as being "goolsbee'd")
involves placing a 1mm copper plate below the original heat sink and
filling the remaining gap with a Fujipoly thermal gap filler pad.
Kind of like this (top to bottom):
-----CPU-----
-thermal pad-
-Orig - sink--&tube---
----Custom Copper Sink---- \
------thermal grease------ \______
---------case metal---------------------
Obviously Not To Scale! =)

"RLF" can share his results WRT temperature/performance changes on
his modified 2400c.
