Greetings to all on this fine list. It's been awhile
since I've been here - my duo has been sidelined while
I've been out of country and other wanderings. This
will be long, please forgive me.

First, I have just learned firsthand how wonderful it
is to have this group and list. You are truly a
responsive, courteous and immensely helpful bunch!
This OT issue is for my girlfriend and I've been on
the other list (titanium) looking for answers - so far
nothing very helpful - and it's emergency time (about
9 days to get this fixed.)

Here's the problem:
My gal has a Titanium, 1st rev 500Mhz w/dvd/cdrw.
Nice unit. The case has cracked AND the yoyo and
power adaptor on the motherboard (this unit does not
have the modular power daughter board) have broken.
This 2nd issue is the main problem at the moment for
there is no way to charge an apple battery for a
titanium without it being in the computer (to my
knowledge.) The local dealer & Apple want about $700
to fix both problems - too rich for my missionary gal
and/or me (believe it or not the computer WAS A TOTAL
GIFT - just in case you wondered about the
"missionary" & "too rich" comment.)

Several questions:
Preface: I've done my repairs on several models of
duo, and other units, so I'm comfortable to go into
the guts.

1. Anyone know where I can get dissembly instructions
- haven't been able to locate?

2. Even with dissembly instructions - any
cautions/tricky things to know about with stuff like
breaking cables when moving something, etc...

3. Is it possible to remove the old power connector
and solder/afix a new one to the current motherboard?
If so, can someone alert me as to how to obtain the
connector (the kind it is) so I can order even before
teardown? Also, what do I need to do to fix the yoyo
connector (the wire is broken off inside.)

4. If none of this is feasible and we have to somehow
find the cash to fix, can I buy a faster mb/processor
for $700 (for an upgrade) and install into the case of
this unit?

5. Anything I haven't thought of?

You may answer me off list at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks so much for any help - have truly appreciated
all the help in the past!

Cheers! Dave 'da pen' Nelson
