Well, it's not going to be software, as that switch is completely hard
wired to toggle power. It will always turn off/turn on.

It could very well be the interconnect board, however. That switch is on
a little daughtercard that either has the modem or just a blank card
depending on whether your Duo has a modem or not. That would be the
first thing to check. It could be loose. Does the top power button work?
I'd imagine it does or you'd have mentioned it.

Keep in mind that you can use Control-Apple-Power to reboot in lots of
cases. I can't think of a time that's ever not worked either.

That aside, its a great machine, max
memory/storage/good cosmetics, etc, and works great
except for one problem....the power switch on the rear
of the 280 doesn't function.  To shutdown and re-boot
after a crash or freeze I must resort to disconnecting
the AC adapter (no battery installed).<snip>
