I am a novice, and may be TOTALLY off base here, or stating obvious things...

But if the problem you described still existed after :

1 - a 4-5 cycle PRAm ZAP, or
2 - tossing out some appliciable system preference file (sorry, i am on a 
PeeSea now), or
3 - a Desktop rebuild (hey, stranger things have happened!) ...

.... I would then try resetting the power on the machine (I am not familiar 
w/ 2400c's, so I do not know if U have a CUDA switch or if U should leave the 
MoBo unpowered for 30 minutes...).
