I am a novice, and may be TOTALLY off base here, or stating obvious things... But if the problem you described still existed after : 1 - a 4-5 cycle PRAm ZAP, or 2 - tossing out some appliciable system preference file (sorry, i am on a PeeSea now), or 3 - a Desktop rebuild (hey, stranger things have happened!) ... .... I would then try resetting the power on the machine (I am not familiar w/ 2400c's, so I do not know if U have a CUDA switch or if U should leave the MoBo unpowered for 30 minutes...).
