I was curious to know if its the LCD that limits the 2400c to "thousands of
colors" or if its something else.

Not enough VRAM to do 800x600 in 24 bit color. The chipset is
capable of doing it, but someone needs to translate the Japanese
article on how to add the extra 1 meg of VRAM.
