Its a software /hardware combination that disables the screen.  I doubt
if you can hack your way around it.  Do your Duo a favor and just get
Nubus cards and stick them in the slots for up to two addtional
monitors.

Obvoiusly you wouldn't want the screen on when using normally in the
dock because your mouse cursor will get lost in the hidden screen,
you'll get a lot of ghosting from having the LCD screen on all the time
(docked and undocked), and the heat from the backlight, etc will shorten
the screen life.
