I use 8.6 on my PB 2400c/180, PM 5400/180, and Performa 5215CD. I have had
no trouble with it on any of these machines. Just make sure you boot from
the 8.5 CD, update the disk driver with Drive Setup 1.7.3 (not the one
included with either 8.5 or 8.6), do a clean install of 8.5, followed by an
update to 8.6, and avoid third-party control panels and extensions like the
plague.
BTW, 8.6 does not give me lower temperatures or longer battery life on my PB
2400c/180. Initially, you might think that it does on yours, but it does so
by dimming the screen to its mid point. Crank the brightness back up and
watch your temperature and battery life return to 8.5 levels.
