Just to note that my 2400 is put back together and seems to be happy with a
new main logic board from DT&T services. I'm still using the original CPU
daughtercard, so whatever went wrong was definitely on the logic board. I
had in fact sent in my CPU card, power board, and backup battery for
testing, and all of them were (and are) ok.

I'm pretty certain they actually *did* give me a new logic board btw (as
opposed to the one I sent, tweaked in some mysterious way) because the old
one had a couple of scratches, and the new one actually needed some
additional coaxing to fit in my 2400's case. I should note that I never had
reason to suspect DT&T or anyone else of that sort of thing, it's just
something I was pleased to rule out while putting things back together. In
point of fact, they were prompt and courteous, didn't bill me for service
since I was doing that myself, and I can now second the recommendations
other people have made for them on this list and elsewhere. Total bill was
$360 US ($65 of which was air courier charges back to Vancouver Island,
pricey but worthwhile). Well, and $41 Canadian to ship the boards there.
Still a bitter pill overall, but it could have been worse.

Oddly, after using my Apple IIgs for a couple of weeks now, I feel less
enamoured of the Powerbook by comparison (not least because it's still
going strong after twelve and a half years). This always happens. ;)
