I haven't seen a USB to serial converter but it seems that the USB Cardbus PC cards work reasonably reliably in the 2400, even though the machine itself is not (fully) Cardbus compliant... Have a look at http://www.ogrady.com/articles/2400_cardbus.cfm for some examples of it might be possible to connect it up...
