Well, the 170 is roughly comparable in CPU capability to an LC II, so
technically it could run up to System 7.6.1. However, since the *maximum*
RAM config would be 8 (!) MB-- 2 MB on motherboard + 2, 4, or 6 MB on an
expansion card-- I doubt that it is very practical to run anything higher
than System 7.1. If you go to 7.5.x or 7.6.x, I would do a custom install
of the minimum PB 170-specific system, then custom install such
additional extensions and control panels as you desire after checking the
system's memory footprint.
I have run 7.5.x easily on a 165c, but that had 14 MB RAM, which in this
case is a very significant difference. Ah, those were simpler times :-).
