It is certainly worthwile to try and repair the keyboard. If I remember
correctly the caps lock key is one of those which have a small metal
support in addition to the rubber layer they sit on - this might cause
the problem... Instructions for keyboard repair can be found at:

Replacing the keyboard is very easily done - a matter of minutes. �100
for a keboard repair seems a fancy price to me.
