In my experience, the only way to fix your Duo is to boot from another disk.
So you need to get/borrow a dock. Maybe you live close to another list
member who'd be willing to let you borrow theirs for two minutes. You could
contact a local user group if there's one. Or if you live in a *really* big
city, a local shop might have a dock around.
If you can't find a dock to borrow, you'll have to buy one. That's probably
cheaper than sending the Duo to Apple for repair.
Sorry to have no good news. I messed with my finder years ago before I had a
dock. Luckily, I knew where I could borrow one to fix the problem I caused.
A word of advice. Never mess with the System or Finder unless you have a
dock, no matter how cool that hack on Resexcellence sounds. If you
absolutely must mess around, set up a minimal system on a ram disk & play
with that one. When you screw up, you just zap the pram to wipe the ram disk
& boot from the HD.
Better yet, get a dock.

Hello again everyone. Here's another dumb problem from yours truly.
I decided to mess around with system enablers for my PB Duo 230. I
downloaded V1.0 & 2.0 and neither of them seemed to do anything when i
put them in the system folder and restarted. I decided I would see what
would happen if I restarted without "finder" in the system folder,
hoping that maybe the enabler would take it's place (the icons look the
same).
I suppose you can all guess what happened...... couldn't boot.
I was wondering if there is anyway around this: Can I move the "finder"
back to the system folder or boot from where it is? I don't have a dock
or any external drives that this thing could boot from. If it can boot
off a local talk connection, then i might be able to hook it up to a Mac
1mb and boot from it's floppy drive, but I bet that's not a
possibility. I also have what i think might be a serial hard drive, I'm
going to try that out after i send this letter because I'm almost
positive it won't work. First of all, I don't even know what's on it or
if it works correctly.
