After reading a post on how to pop it out, (small thin blade at bottom edge) I took off the clicker and figured out two things.
1. It's the 2 foam squares that gives the clicker it's downward resistance. In my case it was too firm, requiring more pressure than I cared to give to make it function, so I sliced off the bottom 40% of it and it helped enourmously. The clicker has a lighter feel to it now.
2. There are five plastic "stays" that keep the clicker from traveling down too far, damaging the clicker bubble/switch. Two are adjacent to the hinge tabs, two are adjacent to two plastic loops in the clicker that coincide with two plastic slots in the top case and the final one is about 12 mm to the left of the clicker bubble. Using a dental drill I relieved the inner surface of the clicker bar for the later 3 so the clicker bar would travel down further and depress the clicker bubble better.
Your results may vary, now I have to get back in the habit of using it again.
