Corina, I'm back in bidness. DT&T was tremendous.

For those on the list who haven't been following this, there are a few
of us 2400 owners who have recently been stricken with the "Died in its
Sleep" failure of this beloved model.  The result is quite catastrophic;
the machine will not wake up from sleep and it is pretty much dead
thereafter. Apparently, some owners have resuscitated theirs by
recharging the backup battery for 48 hours, after which, things returned
to normal, but a nervous nomal. Others, like myself, were not so lucky
and had to have the mother board (also known as the logic board)
replaced or the daughter board replaced.

This has to do with where to get such major repairs if the 2400 is out
of warranty. Apple comes to mind first and did with me. Thinking worst
case, I got a quote of ~$1025 from Apple for a logic board replacement.
I thought I'd do some shopping around. Incidentally, I learned that I
could get a used, in-warranty 2400 for that price. People (with the
same problem) on this and other internet sites kept pointing to a place
in Fremont, CA named DT&T Macintosh Services, as a highly recommended
shop for the repair at less than $400.

I sent my 2400 to DT&T after it spent six days at a local Apple shop.
The locals couldn't fix it. It cost me $70 to find this out.

I too highly recommend DT&T. If one is willing to pay for express
shipping (next morning delivery) TO DT&T, it is possible to receive the
fixed computer back in less than 48 hours. I live in PA and this worked
for me. The shipping was about $38 from here. The repair (logic board)
cost $325. Their normal return-shipping mode is also express, I think
for a flat rate of $50 or maybe that's a rate for my zip code.

There was some talk that DT&T might be bunch of "logic board replacement
enthusiasts" i.e., they might replace a logic board even though the
problem is a loose screw. I don't know about this. My priority was to
get a working 2400 back fast, at a price considerably less than $1025.
I'm happy.

This is quite long; sorry. But if I can save some poor soul out there
from going through what I did, it's worth it.

For those of you still within the warranty period, jump on the extended
plan.
