As I recall, the original Powerbooks were all designated "100"-including 
the original model 100 which was a tiny machine with no disk drive. When
the Duos came out they all started with a "2" - 210, 230, etc. I suspect
the 2300 is meant to evoke a PPC version of a 230, or something of the 
sort.

Well - that's my best recollection/guess, anyways.
