The 2300 is an awesome machine, but if you are looking for speed, I would 
recommend a 2400, for the same size, and the 56k modem card is quite amazing 
as well.  it's about the same size and weight of a 2300, with 3 times the 
speed, and g3 upgradable.  You might consider the ibook, but it's bulky and 
speedy, but bulky non the less.....I would never part with my trusty 2300, 
with my duo dock ethernet connection to my cable box modem, but I sure am 
getting attached to my 2400c.

Just a few thoughts for you to ponder.  I do have a source for 2300c laptops 
if you are in need of one.
