Even though MANY people disagreed with me for some reason about the size and
weight of the iBook being a mark against it as far as the college student was
concerned, I maintain that size does matter, perhaps more on a college campus
than anywhere else. It is for that reason that I say, don't get either of the
current Apple laptops. Although the iBook will bring you more current for around
$500 more than the going price of a 2400, you will hate the size of it. And if
money is not a big obstacle you can upgrade the 2400 to a G3 and considerably
extend its life. By buying on the low end, when you are out of college you can
then easily justify spending some more cash on (God willing) Apple's then
released sub-compact Powerbook replacement for the 2xxx line and really be
current. It'll probably retail for no more than the iBook does now. But take my
word for it, I've been thinking about getting a new PowerBook G3 -- as a desktop
replacement. That's right, I've been thinking of replacing my 6500/225 with it.
However, I'd still keep my 2300 for real "road use". The PB G3 won't even fit in
my book bag or my briefcase! I'd hate to lug that around campus. And ... if it
won't fit on an airline seat tray, how'd you think it's gonna fit on a lecture
hall desk!?! Frank is right though, the 2300 will make you crazy if your desktop
seems too slow. I realize the limitations of my Duo and simply don't expect it to
perform miracles. That's why I'm considering getting the G3 as a desktop
replacement, because then if I did need that kind of power on the road, I'd have
it. But, I'd sure hate it if it were my only choice and I had to drag it to
"Advanced Business Analysis 101" every MWF at 8 A.M.
Good luck!
